Ramada North The Grange
Thursday, 5th March 2009
Here at the Ramada Grange we are delighted to announce that our Vegetable garden is now in full bloom. My team have worked very hard to keep it maintained so that only the best produce is used. All of our fruits and vegetables have been hand reared from seed using only natural materials to encourage perfect seasonal vegetables all year round.
Conservation and recycling have also been at the forefront of our development. We decided to use existing bush land for our mushroom farm and came across an old compost heap that was perfect for growth. I also decided to re-use mayonnaise and painting buckets to grow potatoes and tomatoes in (of which we have several varieties).
The old bar fridge has become a shallot bed and even our scarecrow Eugene has come from recycled chefs uniforms .Our five varieties of beans are protected by baked bean tins and our black cherry trees were found at a renovation project in London.
Our next door neighbour is a farmer and has donated hundreds of tyres including gigantic tractor tyres which we are now growing potatoes and carrots in. Our beds are made from recycled wood and pallets. Topped with a donated shed and second hand greenhouse I think we have done well.
My first taste of our beautifully ripened baby cucumber and perfectly formed carrots left me speechless. No sooner had we picked and prepared our harvested delights, we were selling it through our table d’hote menu. Customer feedback is overwhelming! Most common phrase has been “You can’t beat home grown vegetables” and guess what you can’t!
