Green venues
Bristol is the green capital of the UK - the only city in the UK to be short-listed out of 35 destinations across Europe for the title ‘European Green Capital’ for 2010, and is the UK’s first dedicated cycle city. It is also a Fairtrade city.
A number of venues in the city and surrounding area have achieved accreditation through the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the national sustainable tourism certification scheme and work hard to ensure that the environmental impact of their business is as small as possible.
Venue focus - Tortworth Court, Four Pillars Hotels
Tortworth Court, Four Pillars Hotels’ magnificent four star Victorian mansion, has come up with a unique way of helping companies and organisations reduce their carbon footprint. Planting trees is one of the easiest ways to offset your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. For every large conference placed organisations are invited to plant a tree in the hotel’s beautiful arboretum of over 300 rare and protected trees, aiming to help offset the carbon emissions caused by the conference, for example travel to Tortworth Court. Each tree will be accompanied by a plaque stating the name of the supporting company.
General Manager of Tortworth Court, Stephen Cotton comments “Here at Tortworth Court we are very proud of our arboretum and we are happy that companies are choosing to be environmentally responsible and contribute to the 300 rare and protected trees that flourish here.”
